Hummingbird Community, home of the Hummingbird Living School, is
located one hour southeast of Taos and two hours north of Santa
Fe in the rural town of Cleveland, New Mexico. The school is
nestled at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at an
elevation of approximately 7500 feet.
A year-round flowing river runs through the valley, with heavily
forested ridges on both sides of a gorgeous meadow. It is full
of color year round, with a wide assortment of flowers, herbs
and trees. The property is unique in that it includes numerous
micro-climates. The views are spectacular and the night skies
are an astronomer's dream. We are also blessed with abundant
deeded water rights on the property to support our agricultural
interests.
Hummingbird
Community is down the road from Mora, a small town that offers all the basic services such as food, fuel, banking, schools, phone/communications cooperative, a post office, and other amenity shops. The
predominant Hispanic population of the Mora Valley cultivates a rich sense of place through the cultural, religious, and social traditions of their forefathers.
